The Welcome Center assists new students enrolling to the district and can provide resources, services and referrals to help prepare them for school. Right next door to Discovery Community School and one mile south of the District Administration Office, Quarryview is on the Metro bus line, increasing accessibility for our families. In addition, with the Welcome Center located in the same building as Early Childhood, co-located services for Preschool and Kindergarten will be easily available.

St. Cloud Area School District 742 is an open enrollment school district and welcomes all resident and non-resident students to its schools. Whether a family is enrolling a soon-to-be kindergartner in the all-day, everyday Kindergarten program or is new to the area and has children entering grades 1-12, the Welcome Center can help. The Welcome Center provides assistance in enrolling new students and can provide assistance, services and referrals to prepare them for school.The Welcome Center is the single location for parents and guardians of K-12 students to:
- Enroll students new and returning to the district
- Apply for a transfer to attend a school or program other than the student's assigned attendance area school or resident district
- Record a change of address

Dual Language Immersion Options
Dual Language Immersion is offered in Spanish at Clearview and Westwood Elementary Schools, Chinese at Madison Elementary School, and Somali at Discovery and Talahi Community Schools. In a dual language immersion program students receive instruction for at least half the day in the target language and half the day in English. Spanish and Chinese DLI are 80:20 models, with 80 percent of the day being in the target language. Somali DLI is a 50:50 model.In a DLI program students are immersed in a second language while they learn math, reading, writing, social studies, science, health and other subjects.Dual Language Immersion programs in Somali will continue for kindergartners at Discovery Community School for the Discovery and Oak Hill attendance areas, and at Talahi Community School, serving the Talahi and Lincoln attendance areas.Visit our Language Immersion website for more information.
Early Childhood Screening

- To attend District 742 as a non-resident, or a resident student who wants to attend a school other than their attendance school or a student wanting to attend language immersion, an application must be submitted and be approved for a transfer before enrolling.

During the Visit

Enrolling parent(s)/guardian(s) will meet with a staff member to:
- Verify that all forms are complete and address any concerns
- Receive information regarding transportation, educational benefits, free and reduced lunch and other applicable information
- If needed, receive or schedule a language assessment for English Learner Services
