The purpose of Upward Bound (UB) is to keep students in school who might not otherwise continue their education because of a lack of financial resources or college exposure.
During the school year, students will attend tutoring sessions at their schools, take college preparatory classes, attend enrichment sessions at CSB/SJU and maintain a grade point average required for their particular grade level.
Mentoring and volunteer opportunities will be arranged for program participants so that they may develop strong relationships with positive role models and gain experience in a variety of professional settings.
How to get in? Contact your high school guidance counselor.
Student selected for the program will attend a summer session at the College of Saint Benedict at no cost to them. They will live in the campus residence halls Monday through Friday, spending weekends at their homes. Classes will consist of math, composition, literature, lab science, foreign language, and computer science. Students will also explore career options, participate in sports activities and attend cultural events.
