Pen Pal Program
-
The Pen Pal program serves students in District 742 elementary schools. Correspondence will be sent between volunteers and students through letters that are mailed starting in October 2018 and running throughout the school year. The program provides an opportunity to enhance communication skills and engages students in the activities of letter writing and handwriting. We are currently seeking volunteers at multiple District 742 elementary schools for Pen Pals.
The program participation will also include a school lunch celebration that includes school staff, volunteers and students in May in the school cafeteria. To become a Pen Pal volunteer, please ensure that letter correspondence and participation in the lunch can work for your schedule. No gifts will be expected or exchanged at the lunch. The lunch provides time for students, staff and volunteers to meet and communicate in person in a school environment. Pen Pal volunteers will receive a registration form for the lunch in spring 2019. The lunch and stamps are provided at the volunteer expense.
If you would like to become or remain a Pen Pal volunteer, please complete the online volunteer application. Pen Pal volunteers are not required to complete the background check step. For questions, please contact Community Education Volunteer Services at 320-370-8200 or email volunteer@isd742.org.
